Gaston Lagaffe is the main character of the comic strip Gaston, originally created in 1957 by the Belgian cartoonist André Franquin in the Belgian comic strip magazine, Spirou. He is an extremely popular pop culture icon in France, and since the 1980s also appears on a wide variety of merchandise. La gaffe is French for "the gaffe", "the blunder".
